Clinkers

Clinkers

Clinkers? If you burned black coal
Then you know what they are
They’re chunks of ashes in your stove
Whene’er you build a ‘far’.

And when that ‘far’ has gone plum’ out …
See, I remember when
You had to clean them clinkers out
And start that ‘far’ ag’in.

The ashes loose would fall on down
But clinkers? Ain’t no way!
I used the poker many a time
To chip them all away.

Some people are like clinkers too
Just fillin’ up dead space
They’re all used up and done burnt out
We need a clean fireplace.
